Endodontics in Coquitlam

Endodontists are dentists who specialize in procedures that relate to the interior of the tooth. They focus on diagnosing tooth pain and performing root canals when the tooth is in a very advanced stage of tooth disease. Your dentist will refer you for endodontic surgery when a non-surgical procedure won’t be enough to save your tooth.

Why Do I Need to Have Surgery?

During a root canal procedure, your dentist will remove the infected pulp from the inside of your tooth and then clean and seal the canal. In most cases, this resolves the infection. However, occasionally, the infection may affect the bony area around the end of your teeth, at which point you may need a referral for surgery.

What Is the Procedure for a Surgical Root Canal?

Your endodontist will administer a local anesthetic to make you comfortable during the procedure. They will then open the gum tissue near the tooth and examine the underlying bone. Any inflamed or infected tissue will be removed, and a filling placed to seal the canal as well as stitches in the gums.
