A smile exudes confidence!
Insecurities with your oral health and smile mean you’re less likely to show off the full YOU. This can affect those potential opportunities in your social life, career, and every-day interactions.
Dream Smile Makeover Contest has sprouted from the idea that everyone deserves a smile they find worthy to show off. And who better to treat than mothers?! We know from being in the business that hard-working mothers often neglect their dental care (amongst many other items) in order to put their children first. This May, we will choose one lucky mother who is deserving of a brand new smile of their dreams.
To date, 8 lucky Tri-Cities Moms have won their dream smiles thanks to the CGS Dentistry Team! Someone you know could win!

Your confidence and your overall health are connected, just like your oral health is. A poor smile means you’re less likely to show off your teeth in public, or even to family and friends. Studies have shown the difference smiling can make to your overall happiness and how others see you. Your social life, career and interactions with strangers are all effected by your smile.

If you suffer from dry mouth in the summer or any other time, your Coquitlam dentist at CGS Dentistry has some useful suggestions on what you can do to soothe your dry mouth symptoms and feel better, no matter the season!
If you experience dry mouth, try a sugar-free mint, ideally one that has an anti-bad breath flavour such as spearmint. Mints should help encourage saliva production and as a bonus, you get minty-fresh breath!
Water is ideal for promoting saliva production and comes with countless benefits for your oral and general wellness. If you find that your mouth is getting dry, make sure to always carry a water bottle with you and sip accordingly.
If your mouth is dry, grab fruits and veggies to snack on and keep your mouth – and the rest of yourself – in great health.
A friendly warning from your dentist! Dry mouth can easily increase your chances of gum disease, tooth decay and mouth infections so if you discover that your dry mouth continues despite these tips and tricks, contact CGS Dentistry, your Coquitlam dentist, as soon as possible.

As your Coquitlam dentist, CGS Dentistry recommends cleaning your teeth with fluoride toothpaste for at least 3 minutes and at least two times a day as part of a healthy dental care routine.
However, toothpaste can be great to use around the house.
Great for Insect Bites
Standard non-gel toothpaste can help soothe the itch from an insect bite and keep you from scratching at the site. Try it!
Great to Sanitize your Hands
In a pinch, toothpaste (and a little water) is a great hand sanitizer. As a reward, if you have chopped onions or garlic, you can neutralize the smell with a bit of toothpaste/water.
Great for Fixing Nail Holes
Nail holes generally require putty to correct, but with a little bit of toothpaste, you can easily fill in the hole and touch up with paint afterwards.
Great for Cleaning Diamond Rings
By scrubbing your diamond ring with a bit of toothpaste on an old toothbrush, you could have your diamond looking like new.
Great for Burns
Always out of aloe? Put toothpaste on your burn right after it happens to help alleviate the stinging feeling.
Great for Crayon on your Wall
A damp rag with a little bit of toothpaste on it should just wipe away crayon marks on your wall.
Great for Putting up posters
Forget tape or thumb tacks, merely put a dab of toothpaste on the back of a poster to hang it without doing any damage the wall.
Great for Treating Acne
Dabbing a little bit of toothpaste on a zit prior to bed should clear up things by morning!
Great for Polishing your Drinking Glasses
Polish your scratched glasses with a dab of toothpaste and they should look brand-new!
Great for Protecting against Fog!
Many swimmers use toothpaste to keep their goggles free of fog. Simply wipe the toothpaste on, clean it off and appreciate a fog-free view.
But don’t forget toothpaste’s most crucial role! Brush twice daily, floss once a day and visit your Coquitlam dentist, CGS Dentistry, for an exceptionally healthy smile you’ll be proud to show off!

Dentists generally have a bad reputation. Expressions such as “It’s like pulling teeth” and “I’d rather get a root canal” are proof that doing something painful and hard is often compared to going to the dentist. In fact, going to the dentist is shown as something to be endured, not enjoyed.
However, it doesn’t have to be that way at all – and we at Coquitlam General & Sedation Dentistry, your Coquitlam dentist, certainly don’t believe going to the dentist is a terrifying ordeal for any of our patients. But don’t just take our word for it! Check out some of our testimonials.
Our oral health care experts do their very best to make your every experience at the dentist a memorable one – in a good way! We know why people dislike going to the dentist and we’ve worked to make our office, our staff and our technology into a perfect combination of excellent patient-focused care and excellent oral health care.
If you’re afraid of going to the dentist, we offer you several dental treatment options such as sedation dentistry and we believe in honest, open communication between you, the patient and us, the oral health care professionals. Let us know when you’re uncomfortable and we’ll do everything we can to make you comfortable and relaxed.
If you’re afraid of pain, you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that current dental technology has made going to the dentist a virtually pain-free experience. Extractions, root canals and even routine cleanings are now the most efficient possible.
If you’re worried you’ll be judged for your oral health care regime, we promise you’ll only get a better understanding of oral health care, not a scolding! We’re thrilled you’ve chosen our dental clinic as your partner in your quest for a healthy, happy smile.
Contact Coquitlam General & Sedation Dentistry, your Coquitlam dentist, and finally “feel like you’re on cloud 9” when you’re going to the dentist.

Preventing cavities is sometimes not an easy task. Do you find yourself prone to getting a lot of dental cavities even though you brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily and visit your Coquitlam dentist, CGS Dentistry, every six months for a regular checkup? The problem may actually be linked to your diet. Here are a few super snacks that can help keep your teeth and gums at their healthiest in the constant struggle of preventing cavities:
Fruits & Veggies:
Apples, celery and cucumbers are all excellent super snacks for your dental health. These super snacks are nutritious and will help keep clean the surfaces of your teeth and massage your gums, improving circulation.
Dairy products:
Milk, cheese and calcium help with preventing cavities. These super snacks are rich in calcium and help neutralize acids in the mouth, reducing the incidence of cavities and tooth decay.
Other Great Snacks:
Nuts are excellent super snacks for oral health because they provide calcium and phosphate – elements that help keep dental enamel strong.
Dental professionals recommend avoiding any sugary snacks because sugar feeds the bacteria in the mouth and causes cavities. If you have any questions about which snacks are appropriate and which aren’t, or if you would like to book an appointment at your Coquitlam dentist, CGS Dentistry, to learn more about preventing cavities, please click here.
